Christopher Hitchens, dead at 62.

Christopher Hitchens, dead. A slashing polemicist in the tradition of Thomas Paine and George Orwell who trained his sights on targets as various as Henry Kissinger, the British monarchy and Mother Teresa, wrote a best-seller attacking religious belief, disturbed the left, the right, the ultra left and the ultra right and dismayed his former comrades on the left by enthusiastically supporting the American-led war in Iraq, died Thursday at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was 62. Nobody quite understood the world we live in as he did. Nobody (that I’m aware of) was so incredibly capable at contextualizing politics and existence since Sartre. A genius who will be missed by millions. I’ve been a fan since the 1970s. I really loved this guy and will for ever love him.
